The university removed comments from facebook to protect us from obscenity and negative ideas. Use the designated free speech zones, not online forums where my family and friends must read them. Safety and security is one of the universities most important roles.

If the university removed comments from facebook to protect you from negative ideas, that is censorship. If your family and friends actually believe this, then they are drinking the kool-aid. Online forums ARE free speech zones. The university merely removed the comments that they didn’t like. Sometimes the truth hurts and it is perceived by some (obviously you) as negative. Can you show me one place where online forums are not free speech zones(besides the SIU facebook page)? The comments on that forum had nothing to do with safety and security. It had EVERYTHING to do with the university not wanting to accept that there are a multitude of people out there that don’t believe the spin that Cheng is putting on this whole situation, at the direction of the career politician-turned-academic administrator Poshard. If you truly believe what you just said, you should examine the Bill of Rights a little more closely. Nowhere in the first amendment does it say anything about “negative ideas”. If your family and friends were offended by the posts, maybe they should stay off of the iNternet!
